STUDENT TRAVEL SUPPORT

The Education Committee and the Awards Committee of the IEEE Magnetics Society are pleased to sponsor a small number of students working in magnetics to attend the INTERMAG 2003 Conference. These awards (approximately $500 each) are intended to partially offset travel costs to attend the conference. Nominations will be accepted until February 7, 2003 from faculty advisors of the interested students. The nominator does not have to be the student's primary advisor, but must be intimately familiar with his or her work. The nominator must also be a member of the IEEE Magnetics Society. Preference will be given to students who are nearing completion of their graduate studies and presenting papers at the conference. No support will be granted to postdoctoral fellows or non students.

The nomination should be made via e-mail ONLY by February 7, 2003 and must contain the following information in the order given below:

  1. The subject line of the e-mail MUST be: "Intermag 2003 student travel awards". Without this subject line, there is no guarantee that your application will be evaluated.
  2. The name, address, phone number, FAX number, e-mail address and IEEE membership number of the nominator.
  3. The name, home address, phone number, FAX number and e-mail address of the student.
  4. For U.S. resident students: social security number (this is a U.S. government requirement based on IRS regulations that we cannot avoid).
  5. Title and BRIEF description of the student's thesis or dissertation work. Please indicate the start date, expected graduation date and name of the degree.
  6. Whether or not the student will present a paper; if so, the title, authors and designation of the paper.
  7. Itemized budget for travel. (In order to help the maximum number of students to participate in the conference, this award provides only partial travel funding. If air travel is planned, the budget should be based on the most economical airfares available. Frugality is considered a virtue by the committee).
  8. The source and extent of current funding that would be available to help the student travel to INTERMAG 2003.
  9. Whether or not the student has received a travel award for a previous Intermag, MMM or Joint Conference and, if yes, then the year and name of the Conference.
The awards will be announced by February 28, 2003. All nominations should be e-mailed to the following address:

Dr. James C. Eckert
Harvey Mudd College
Claremont, CA USA
E-Mail:James_Eckert@hmc.edu

Applications received after the deadline date of February 7, 2003 will NOT be considered.
