1) How do I submit my Intermag 2002 manuscript for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics?
The deadline for receipt of your manuscipt is January 6, 2003. The manuscript will be subjected to the usual stringent review criteria established for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics. Accepted papers will be published in the September 2003 issue of this Journal.
In order to submit your manuscripts please follow these steps:
- Download the instructions for preparation of manuscripts from the IEEE Information for Authors web page. Templates are available for TeX and Word formats. Instruction are also available in pdf. Please make sure and refer to the paragraph: "Word Template for Transactions on Magnetics:"
- Prepare your manuscript according to the downloaded instructions. Invited papers can be up to six journal pages and contributed papers can be up to three journal pages. These are the maximum allocations. Anything longer will be automatically rejected.
- Please read the information regarding IEEE Intellectual Property Rights, download the IEEE Copyright Form and complete it
- If, for any reason, you have difficulty viewing or downloading any of the necessary files, you should contact Courtesy Associates at Intermag@courtesyassoc.com to request copies by email/fax.

2) What are the Guidelines for Presentations?
It is important for all presenters to read the following guidelines:
- Guidelines for Oral Presentations
- Guidelines for Poster Presentations
A) Guidelines for Oral Presentations:
Use these guidelines if your paper has been accepted for an Oral presentation at the INTERMAG 2003 Conference. All presentations must be in English. The presenting author must be a registered participant of the conference.
- Oral Presentations:
The talk MUST be presented by an author registered for the conference. Authors not registered for the conference will NOT be allowed to make a presentation. If a talk is not presented, the paper will be reported as a "no-show" by the session chair and will NOT be published in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics.
- Equipment:
This year the conference is planning an all-electronic presentation format. Presentations will be made using lap-tops and digital projection equipment ("beamers"). Authors will attach their laptop computers to digital projection equipment supplied by the conference. It is strongly urged that you come prepared with your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint format for a PC. Detailed instructions for laptop presentations will be available at this website. There will be a Speaker Practice Room where authors can test their equipment prior to their presentations. If you anticipate problems, please contact Courtesy Associates.
- Time:
Contributed papers are allowed 12 minutes for the presentation and 3 minutes for questions and discussion. Invited papers are allowed 25 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for questions and discussion. Session and paper times are listed in the program book to allow conference attendees to select talks they wish to hear from various sessions. It is imperative that speakers keep to time, and Session Chairs have been asked to enforce strict time limits. Check-in with your session chair about 20 minutes before the session start time. Presentations will be called only at the published times.
- Basic Considerations:
The audience has to be kept interested during the whole presentation. Only a very logically arranged presentation - clear, concise, and to the point - will accomplish this. Too much material in the limited time allowed, or presentation of the material too rapidly will overwhelm the audience, and the speaker will lose the audience very quickly.
INTERMAG attendees come from a variety of scientific disciplines. Some tutorial background is recommended. The enthusiasm of the speaker contributes as much to the success of the presentation as does the scientific content.
Useful guideline: One slide per minute. Practice the presentation to ensure the maximum effect at the conference.
B) Guidelines for Poster Presentations:
Use these guidelines if your paper has been accepted for a Poster presentation at the INTERMAG 2003 Conference. All presentations must be in English. The presenting author must be a registered participant of the conference.
- Poster Presentations:
The Poster MUST be presented by an author registered for the conference. Authors not registered for the conference will NOT be accepted as presenters. If a poster is not presented, the paper will be reported as a "no-show" by the session chair and will NOT be published in the IEEE Transactions on Magnetics.
- Time:
The authors must be by their posters from 8:00-9:00 AM and 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon for morning sessions and from 1:00-2:00 PM and 4:00-5:00 PM for the afternoon sessions. The available poster board area will be about 1.2 m wide by 1.2 m tall, and will have the paper identification number (e.g. AP-01) mounted on it.
Posters should be set up 15 minutes before the start of the session and dismounted immediately after the session ends. Please note that there is only a limited time between the end of the morning and the beginning of the afternoon sessions. So, it is necessary to stick closely to the published schedule. Material not removed at the end of the session will be discarded in order to prepare for the next session. Leave all pins at the poster area for use by authors in the subsequent poster sessions.
- Basic Considerations:
Poster presentations are just as important a communication medium as oral presentations. The key to a popular and effective poster presentation is careful preparation and organization of presentation materials. Logically arranged and attractive materials are a natural audience draw. Posting a copy of the paper, or similar "shortcuts," is strongly discouraged. The size of the poster materials should be such that they are easily read from a few meters away. Expect the aisles to be crowded.
INTERMAG attendees come from a variety of scientific disciplines. Some tutorial background is recommended. The enthusiasm of the presenter contributes as much to the success of the presentation as does the scientific content.
Useful guideline: About 6 lines per poster page.
